We’re both pleased and proud to announce that 4 Hallam Warriors earned themselves a spot on this year’s GB lion’s student squad after impressing coaches at trials last month.
Will Hobbs (S/RB), Ronel Daley-Thomas (TE), Aden Flannagan (WR/FB) and Gerry-Lee Pierre (LB) all made the cut.
Will joined the Warriors this year after graduating from his studies at Hull University, and alongside the likes of Zach Runzo and James Manson has been part of arguably the most menacing secondary in the league. His versatility and athleticism also makes him equally formidable on the other side of the ball, where he can be deployed as a running back. He rushed for 112 yards and 1 TD in his last game against the Hawks and has also made a name for himself as a return specialist.
Ronel has been one of Hallam’s best offensive weapons so far this year with both his receptions and devastating crack blocks. It’s almost hard to believe that this time last year he fought his battles in the trenches, lining up as a Defensive Lineman. He has quickly managed to utilize his sheer size and strength to his and the teams advantage.
Aden is no newcomer to the GB set up and is a veteran of the game having played for both the Sheffield Tomahawks and Predators for many years. Whether lining up in the slot or as a Full back he is often one of the most dangerous and stand out players on the field, his combination of speed and strength so far earning himself 4 Touchdowns in his last 5 games.
Perhaps the surprise pick was Gerry-Lee who only took up the sport 5 months ago. Gerry-Lee comes from a Rugby background but quickly adapted and picked up the fundamentals of the game, despite missing several weeks of training due to suffering from an injury obtained while playing rugby. He recorded a sack in his first ever football game after a well-timed blitz, showing it was clear he had the talent to match his imposing physical frame.
“It was a huge surprise for me but I'm excited to see how much I can develop as a player and hope that GB will increase the pace of this progression.” He said.
Huge congratulations to all the boys and we wish them well in their GB journeys.
